‘Adolescents lead a stressful life’ is a very controversial topic. There are many ways to look at it. from one point, there is a lot of work and pressure thrown at us. But from the other, it is a time when you learn to discover yourself, focus on your passion and achieve your goals.
Stress is an unavoidable reality of life. Life is general is perceived as stressful. It is indeed the most stressful for teenagers. Adolescents are under more stress today than ever before. The main roots of teenage stress are academic pressure, social pressure, and hormonal changes. On the other hand, teenage life is also the happiest stage of life for adolescents.
The present pressure cooker, education system is a source of immense stress for teens. Academic pressure is extremely high at this stage of life. In today’s highly competitive world, students face various academic problems including exam stress, disinterest in attending classes and the inability to understand a subject. They also have many occupations throughout the day such as attending tuition, enrichment classes, sport activities, doing homework, etc. There is little or no ‘me’ time for the adolescents and they cannot even get a sufficient sleep necessary for their body. Excessive levels of academic stress can result in increased psychological and physical problems like depression, anxiety, nervousness, and stress related disorders, which in turn can affect their academic results. A certain amount of stress can facilitate learning, but it becomes a problem when it exceeds the child’s capacity.
Social pressure is also a big stressor. It may cause people to change their picture of reality, and those who resist it can be emotionally upset. Due to this, teenagers start to have trouble making friends or being accepted by peers. They get mild anxiety attacks if asked to speak up in class. They face social anxiety disorder due to their lack of confidence. social pressure can also affect mental health. It can decrease self-confidence and lead to poor academic performance, and isolation from family members and friends. Left untreated, this could eventually lead teens to engage in self-harm or have suicidal thoughts.
The Good Side of Adolescence
On the other hand, adolescence is the best time of a teenager’s life. The teenage phase, for many, is the golden period. Juveniles do not need to worry about responsibilities, jobs, and so forth. They, for instance, do not have to earn a living. In addition, they can spend more quality time with peers and do things adults would not dare. It is also an excellent opportunity to pursue your passion. It is the period where you discover who you really are and where you belong. Teenage stage of a person’s life knows no bound and brings pure joys.
Adolescence is one of the most fascinating and complex transitions in the life span: a time of accelerated growth and change, a time of expanding horizons, self-discovery, and emerging independence. It is a person’s happiest yet stressful stage of life. Teenagers suffer from a stressful life because of academic and social pressure and hormonal changes. But nothing can ever replace this period because it is one of the best times of a person’s life.
