OnePlus 9: Nice Hasselblad Cameras and Great Improvements

OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 9 on March 23rd alongside 9 Pro and 9R. Last year, when the 8 series was launched, the OnePlus 8 wasn’t the people’s talk. OnePlus 9 now is a more refined product. OnePlus has collaborated with Hasselblad to improve their camera system.

The camera system on this phone is that of the OnePlus 9 Pro without the telephoto camera. That’s a frustrating thing to do as they could have excluded the monochrome lens and should have retained the telephoto lens. Apart from that, the cameras are of flagship quality. It is a competent system by looking at the price point at which the phone got launched. It even gets the Hasselblad branding.

But full equity hasn’t been done for that name. The cameras could have been better in clour saturation, autofocus and some other aspects. But some of the issues can be improved through software updates. Overall these are high-grade cameras.

OnePlus 9 comes with a 120 Hz FHD+ LTP AMOLED panel. The screen produces vibrant colours and the blacks are spot on. But, it doesn’t have an adaptive refresh rate. This means that battery life will be normal. Still, the battery of the 9 lasts more than that of the 9 Pro. There’s a small punch hole cut out for the front-facing camera. OnePlus has reverted to a flat-screen for this phone this time.

OnePlus has had a very good reputation for its software. It is bloatware-free software. It is just like stock android and has loads of customization features. The phone has got Android 11 out of the box. And with this latest version, OnePlus has added a new feature of Always-on Display. OxygenOS is one of the cleanest, safest and best android software. This is a major plus point for this phone.

This phone is packed with Snapdragon 888 and this probably is one of the cheapest phones with this chipset. It has got two options of 8 GB and 128 GB or 12 GB and 256 GB storage options. RAM type is LPDDR 5 and storage type is UFS 3.1. There’s no option for expandable storage.

The phone has a 4500 mAh battery which can be charged by Warp Charge 65T power brick (included in the box). They’ve added wireless charging to the phone which is not as fast as the 9 Pro but still was worth bringing in. It charges at a standard 15W power wirelessly.

The frame made of metal and the back and front are of Gorilla glass 5. Others like Note 20 ultra, S21 ultra and ROG phone 5 use Gorilla glass Victus. The vertical camera module which has been a part of the OnePlus tradition has changed.

In the US, the OnePlus 9 starts at $729 whereas in India it starts at Rs.49,999.

Compared to the previous series, the new phone is more refined and a value for money phone. It’s definitely worth the price and has a nice overall package with the Hasselblad cameras.
